Every night when the hour hand indicates the eight o’clock, none of the Swat district in the province of North-West Frontier, Pakistan, will turn off the radio. With full attention and terrified, they will listen on the Taliban broadcast despite it contains threats and warnings. For, once absent to hear of broadcast, people at the district which is located strategically between Islamabad, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi could lose their heads. At least, receive whip punishment.

”They control everything from the radio, “said one of Swat resident , wrote by The New York Times, yesterday (25 / 1).

He deliberately did not mention the name because of fear on the Taliban. According to him, the same fear felt by residents throughout the district. They will never miss the broadcasts that are usually dominated by local Taliban leader in command, Shah Doran.

Almost every night, Shah Doran explain the definition of activities that are considered not Islamic Taliban in Swat version. They ban people not to do those things such as buy DVD, watch paid television, sing while dancing, criticizing Taliban, shave beard, and allow the women to school.

But, what make the most cold sweat streaming is when Shah Doran announced the names of residents who were killed because of violating the Taliban rule. Also, the names of others who are going to be killed next.

On this one past year, Taliban’s power are getting strong in this prosperous district. That happened after they succeeded in conquering the local leaders and make the Swat region as their headquarters. No less than 1.3 million people in the area has to obey all the rule that command by that military’s hard line.
Taliban will bear punishment and cruelty to each violation of the rules. For example, beheading in public, murder, social and culture repression, and many other cruel punishment. At the beginning of the resurrection of them year ago, Taliban behead 70 police. And dozens of other were being shot.

“At that time, at least 150 officers were hurt,” said one of Swat police.
That events leave a deep trauma for the law enforcement in the district. Most of the members of the police district back then chose to resigned from their positions. In fact, they were directly advertising their recession in the local newspaper so Taliban no longer after them because of their profession.

However, Farooq Khan, an average police officer in the city of Mingora, Swat district, chose to survive on his position. “I still have to survive and defend the land of our birth,” he said, as presented Wajid Ali Khan, his brother. Unfortunately for Farooq, months ago he was killed by Taliban.

Some analysts said, the existence of the Taliban is getting strong because of the failure of the Pakistan civil government. Moreover, after General Pervez Musharraf resigned and gave the prime minister’s chair and presidency replaced to President Asif Ali Zardari who has no military education. Since then Pakistan military became unstable. The government seem to split and do not know what to do.
